Love the photograph, love the photo filters, this was a great find.

Edit (11/19/2012): It was recently pointed out to me that some of you might be having trouble with seeing the words on dashboard because of the transparency, so I replaced the installation link with a new installation link for a layout that might be easier to see. So click to download for a easier to see version of this layout.

I really love this layout, but I find the transparency on the bottom boxes a bit hard on the eyes - they just make it really difficult to read what's written in those boxes. Would it be possible to point me in the direction of a tutorial that would help me change that?

I don't really have a tutorial posted for that (maybe I will in the future) but I can still help you out, do you still want the transparency but darker or do you want it a solid color (like black)?

Thank you so much - I've been trying to hack a solution together myself but I have no idea what I'm doing so it's proving really awkward. I think I figured out how to do a solid background but it doesn't look as good as the transparency. I'd rather keep the transparency slightly but for the sake of my eyes I'd rather it was much darker to make the text a lot easier to read, would that be possible?

Sure, since the transparency is an actual image, I have to switch it out with a darker one so I'll replace the old installation link with the new one when I correct it. I'll let you know when you can download it again.
